Not much to see here

Mr. Brilliant departed for SoCal this morning.  He was cool as a cucumber but I was a bit of a mess.  Not that I let him see that.

Miss Bliss will enjoy a extra long weekend of sleep overs with a number of her school mates, events include a volleyball playoff, a horse show, a trip to a farm and a trip to the dog park.

I’ll be headed to Philly Friday morning.  Mr. A+ checked into the hospital today, he has tests tomorrow and surgery on Friday.

Distance learning, or, to Grandma’s house we go

Mr. Brilliant will go to his grandma’s to stay for 10 days while I get my husband sorted.

Mr. A+ will spend the weekend in the hospital in Cleveland, then a friend will collect him and drive him to Pittsburgh.  Perhaps this friend will drive Mr. A+ to his surgeon in Delaware, or perhaps I will fly to Pittsburgh.  Either way, Mr. A+ will have someone drive him, in stages, from Cleveland to Delaware.

Next Friday he will have surgery to fix the clot in his leg.

I’m still scrambling to manage care for Miss Bliss, but it is much easier now.  I reached out to her classmates’ parents and there is one family that will take Miss B for two days, another family that will drive her to and from school twice, another family that will take her for a night and two teachers who offered to take her for a night each.  With the help of our neighbor and our babysitter, I think we have it covered.

So I will delay booking air travel until Mr. A+ has his travel all locked and loaded.  In the mean time I will farm out the pets and pack and prepare Mr. B’s school work so his grandma can take over instruction for 10 days.

I still haven’t made the Prune Cake from Pioneer Woman’s cookbook, that will just have to wait.  Today Miss Bliss plans on making cookies and Mr. B has asked to make ice cream.  He has also been asking to make potato chips for weeks now.  Today may be a good day to do that.

Introducing Me

It’s just one of those things.

This photo is about a year old, taken in Amsterdam late last summer. Why does the mommy hardly ever get in the photo? That’s because she’s taking the picture, DOH!

Well, anyway, here I am:

Introducing Miss Bliss

Here she is…

IMG_2878,

In the Science Museum in London.

We were awaiting our lunch.  It was rather a good meal, if somewhat expensive.  Miss Bliss discovered she really did like tomato soup.  Both kids pissed off with me, I had been pushing to see as much of London as possible, all they wanted to do was go back to the hotel and read.  “Hell, No!” was my response.  I had just told Miss Bliss that we were going to see the Victoria and Albert once we were done at the Science Museum.  If you think she looks sullen, you should have seen her brother’s response.

Um, no, you shouldn’t.  It wasn’t pleasant.  We had one of our ‘Pearls before Swine’ moments right after I took this photo.

“But”, you ask, “did the kids enjoy London?”

Oh yes, very much, indeed.  If you’ve got the funds by all means take your kids to London.  Brits are so kid friendly, more so than most Americas.  Museums are very accessible and the city is easy to get around, by bus, tube or cab.  If you’re willing to shop at M&S or Tesco and eat in your hotel room or picnic, you’ll be able to stretch your food budget vastly.  Hotels can be awfully expensive but deals can be found.

Introducing Mr. Brilliant.

Here he is.  In London.  Very, very bored.  It was hot, too, too hot, and the tour was so very, very, very boring.

We decided to take a trip to the UK this year.  It was rather unexpected but very welcome.  We spent two weeks visiting a friend in York (a city well worth visiting) and a week in London.  I was pick-pocketed on a bus on our first day in London, but it turned out that cloud had a silver lining.  First off, I got to  meet the manager of the Money Shop in Hammersmith and wow, what a nice guy.  Second, we had to cut our trip short, therefore leaving London the day before the riots began.  Our hotel was right in the thick of some of the worst rioting, so I’m very pleased to have gotten out of Dodge when we did.
